Protecting your website and staying safe online

Simon Crisp Posted by Simon Crisp Email Simon

You may have heard a lot in the press recently about Phishing. This is the practice of fraudsters sending out emails pretending to be someone they are not and encouraging you to give away personal information.

Often these emails really do look like they have come from an organisation you know. The most common example is an email from a bank asking you to click a link and login or your account will be suspended.

Edward Robertson are committed to doing all we can to help you stay safe online.

It is really important that you protect your usernames and passwords when you use your admin / content management system online because fraudsters are now starting to target web design firms and their clients.

Here are some tips to stay safe:

  • We will never email you asking you for any personal details or passwords. If you get an email from us asking for this, or asking you to visit a website (even if it looks like yours) to enter your details please call us or email us immediately
  • If in any doubt call us on 01325 489300
  • Check that when you go to your admin you are actually at that address. e.g. www.yourdomainname.co.uk/admin
  • Check you have the latest Virus Scanning and Spyware Software installed
  • Think about how you protect your passwords from passers by - don't write them on post-it notes and stick them to your PC
  • Close all open browser windows when you are finished in your admin
